This site exists because many people do not know much about Windows operating systems and programs they are using. They often know even less about computer and online security.
I try to give them some idea about what and how to use to stay safe.

The site and its contents are handled by a single person - Margus Saluste - so if you've found something helpful here, please make a small donation using the PayPal button on the right (scroll downward). Creating and maintaining www.winhelp.us (and help.artaro.eu) takes most of my free time and requires paying monthly fees for hosting. 

Who are winhelp.us users?

Target audience is home users who feel they want or need to know a little more about computers, Windows and free programs. We will not go into every little detail of every program, but you will still find sufficient information about the most useful features.

The site is in no way a complete guide in the world of Windows - and it never will be. I try to shed some light on the basics only.

For home users, not business users!

Articles here focus on home users and not business users. Do not expect all covered software to be free for commercial purposes. Several articles are still applicable to business users, but your IT administrators might have created policies that prevent configuring and/or installing software.

Why these operating systems and programs?

Windows XP, Vista and 7 are not free, but millions (mis)use them every day.
All other software is freely available for at least home users. Most people do not need expensive software to do basic tasks and stay safe online.
These programs and operating systems are here because I use (almost all of) these every day.

Is winhelp.us free to use?

Yes, you can read and print and link to every piece of information here.
In case you happen to find any information on this site really useful, you can always donate via PayPal (use the Tips link on the bottom). But this is a voluntary action - free is free.

Why ads?

Advertisements are sometimes a complete nuisance, I know. But for me, they provide a small income to cover my time spent on building the site, writing and updating the articles and paying hosting fees. Believe me, it is not easy. I try to keep ads under control by not accepting any automatic pop-ups or other possibly disturbing content. So please click on an interesting link and support this site. Your clicks are voluntary, but very much needed...

Privacy

winhelp.us respects privacy of all visitors. I do gather statistical data for site enhancing (finding broken links, optimizing search capabilities and optimizing site contents) using Google Analytics and this puts one cookie on your computer or device you use for visiting this site. This cookie contains a string of characters that uniquely identifies your web browser.
Additional cookies are put to your computer by advertisement provider Google AdSense; AddThis toolbar also adds a cookie and a random hash starting with # to a page address.
I do not use cookies for any other purposes than statistics and I do not gather or share or sell any other information about winhelp.us visitors.
I do not distribute gathered data to any other companies or individuals.
